I love to cook but am definitely an amateur. I have mastered a few areas. The few recipes I would confidently serve to company without fear of a stomach pumping will be posted sooner or later. I love cooking with wild game but am a much better fisherman than a hunter, so treats like venison and grouse are enjoyed only a few times a decade. That's OK, there are lots of great places up here like Paradise Meats and Oryana to get stuff to cook with. On rare occasions when I do splurge and eat food not prepared at home, favorites are Red Ginger, Ham Bones, and Cuppa Joe in Traverse City; Trout Town Cafe in Kalkaska; Shorts Brewery in Belaire; and Leelanau Coffee in Glen Arbor.

Here is my recipe for granola. I tried to get close to the stuff they have at the Cherry Street Market in Kalkaska. I didn't get close, but this is a different style from that. I don't use nuts or seeds and I use blueberry flavored syrup. I give it away as holiday gifts and everyone loves it.
