Gifts with an Up North Flavor
While nibbling on a midday meal of raclette from Leelanau Cheese and Princess Alena's Slipper Bread from Patisserie Amie, I got to thinking about all the wonderful products available to us here in Northern Michigan. I've always enjoyed sending gifts to friends and family that offer a taste of the north, so I thought I'd start a list of what's available locally that would make great gifts for those on your list. And by all means, let me know what I've missed!

Great idea, Paula. Amazing how many local "gift items" there are.

Hey there Paula, This is a really great site and I appreciate this piece. You've listed many of my favorite local businesses here. I can't tell you how much we depend on the patronage of our local community, especially at the holidays. And it's a win-win because every dollar invested in a local business will continue to circulate within our community. Thanks Paula and Ann for supporting our local food purveyors and farmers! Jody

Many wonderful products listed here, we are indeed blessed. Several members of my family are no longer in the area, for the holidays we have a tradition of sending food baskets for the holidays containing many products from those listed along with beef jerky from the Dockside Party Store on West Bay Shore Drive in Leelanau County.

Thanks for the positive comments everyone! Randy, your mention of the beef jerky is a good one, and a reminder for folks to check out all the places like Bunting's and Pleva's in Cedar or Gabe's in Maple City for jerky and sausages, or Carlson's in Leland for smoked fish.
