Savor Michigan Cookbook Highlights Northern Michigan Restaurants

The addition of Michigan locales to Chuck and Blanche Johnson's Savor Cookbook series is an inviting look at some of our favorite area restaurants. Traverse Epicurean Classic's Matt Sutherland's involvement in this publication lends credence to the choices therein. An interesting bit of history about each restaurant prefaces recipes just waiting to be tried.

Up north restaurants include the following favorites:

  • Traverse City - Amical and Trattoria Stella
  • Maple City - North
  • Leland - The Riverside Inn
  • Bellaire - Lulu's Bistro
  • Ellsworth - Tapawingo and Rowe Inn
  • Bay Harbor - Lattitude Restaurant
  • Petoskey - Chandler's
  • Harbor Springs - The New York Restaurant

And four more even further up north in Mackinaw Island, Drummond Island, Marquette and Hancock.

  • Drummond Island - Bayside Dining
  • Mackinaw Island - Grand Hotel
  • Marquette - Capers Restaurant
  • Hancock - North Shore Pub'N Grill

Looking through the 100 pages highlighting northern Michigan it was good to see use of local products in many of these gourmet recipes. Some of them include these mouth-watering entries: Morel and Leek Pierogi, Brie in Pastry with Dried Cherries, Prosciutto Wrapped Salmon with Caper Sauce, Venison Medallions with Port Wine Demi-Glace, Pork Cutlets with Apples and Maple Syrup, Roasted Cervena Venison Loin with Huckleberry Gastrique, Morel Mushroom Burgers and Morel Mushroom and Wild Rice Bisque.

A fine addition to a cookbook collection.
