Morel Festival
Yesterday we hit Boyne City to attend the Morel Festival held right on the lakefront. It was a shame that it was quite cool and damp but from what we could tell, that didn't have too much effect on attendance.
We hit the main tent about noon to do the sampling of the 11 local restaurants that prepared all sorts of morel goodies. All were quite good and some were outstanding. They came in appetizer sized portions for either $2 or $3.
We expected some great mushroom soup and were not disappointed. The more unusual items were "Home on the Range Buffalo Morel Perogies", Morel anc Chicken Pot Pie and Corn Cakes with Morel Cream Sauce.
But the runaway winner was the Palette Bistro's Morel Spinach Bread Pudding. This was a heavenly mix of spinach and mushrooms and bread that was to die for. The kicker was the dark mushroom sauce that topped it. If it gets on the menu, make sure you try it - you won't be disappointed.
We ended our Boyne City visit with a stop at Sante's which is now our favorite restaurant on this side of Torch Lake. If you love mussels, you have to make a swing by Sante's. They make them 5 different ways and if you really like mussels, then go there on Thursday nites when it's all you can eat for $15!
Later - Dickster.
