ISLAND's spring series kicks off March 24 with a workshop on home mushroom production. Another mushroom workshop will be held April 9. Read on for more details, and visit the site to see all the events in the series.

Thursday from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at The Stephens'
4067 West Eddy School Rd, Bellaire, MI

Each workshop attendee will get to tour a shiitake laying yard, get hands-on experience inoculating shiitake logs, and learn how to grow oyster and wine cap (Stropharia) mushrooms. Each attendee will take home one fully inoculated shiitake log. There will also be a shiitake starter kit give-away, donated by Field and Forest Products of Peshtigo, Wisconsin. Limited to 12 participants. $30, preregistration required

Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm at The Ware Farm
9094 Alkire Road, Bear Lake, MI
This is a work-bee of a workshop: so roll up those sleeves, and prepare to get some great hands-on experience! Each workshop attendee will learn how to inoculate shiitake logs, by working at drilling, inoculating and waxing stations throughout the day. At the end of the work bee, you will take home 10 fully inoculated shiitake logs. A great way to kickstart your home mushroom production! Limited to 10 participants. $100, potluck lunch, please bring a dish to pass (soup provided). Pre-registration required by April 1st.
