Granola Recipe
Here is my recipe for granola. I tried to get close to the stuff they have at the Cherry Street Market in Kalkaska. I didn't get close, but this is a different style from that. I don't use nuts or seeds and I use blueberry flavored syrup. I give it away as holiday gifts and everyone loves it.
4 cups rolled oats (or quick oats)
3/4 cups wheat germ
3/4 cups oat bran
1/4 cup sunflower seeds or favorite nuts (optional)
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup maple syrup (blueberry flavored is great)
A little less than 1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup dried fruit (cherries or blueberries are very good)
- Preheat oven to 325F. Line baking sheet with aluminum foil (non-stick type works best).
- Combine oats, wheat germ, oat bran, and seeds or nuts in large bowl.
- Stir together salt, sugar, syrup, honey, oil, cinnamon, and vanilla in a sauce pan. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Pour boiled mixture over dry ingredients and stir to coat.
- Spread evenly onto baking sheet.
- Bake until crispy and toasted, about 17-20 minutes, stirring once halfway through.
- Remove from oven and add dried fruit.
- Allow to cool, break apart and store in air tight container.

Yum. That sounds really good, Paul. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for posting!

I agree with your choices for good food, though I would add the Cook's House. They have a new cookbook and have sold 1,300 copies so far. Blueberry in anything works for me, so I'll happily try this recipe too. I'll bet you've sampled the blueberry sausage from Paradise Meats?

On one of our tours, we had lunch at the Cook's House, and Chef Eric Patterson made a dessert with blueberries, ricotta cheese, either maple syrup or honey, and topped it with nuts! So simple, so good! (And, Pat, we recently got the cookbook, it's beautiful! Really well done.) Granola is one of the best gifts during the holidays. I'm just finishing up some made by a friend. She used raw honey. Yum!
