Edible Grande Traverse
Local foods will soon get another showcase here in northern Michigan. Welcome to Edible Grande Traverse, a quarterly magazine expected to debut this month.
"Ours is one of the edible family of local food newsletters and we have chosen to name it "Edible Grande Traverse," says Charlie Wunsch, who along with his wife, Barb Tholin, moved to Traverse City last year to start the magazine and raise their son.
"Yes, that is Grande with an 'e'!," he notes. "We wanted to do something to keep us from sounding too absolutely TC-centric, so we thought that going with the original French spelling might keep everyone on their toes a bit."
Wunsch grew up on his family's farm on the Old Mission Peninsula, while Tholin paid many a visit to her grandpa's farm near Grand Rapids. Tholin studied agronomy and rural resource management, and worked as a produce manager for a food coop in Minnesota. The couple met in the produce section there when Wunsch stopped by to sell apples from his Minnesota farm.
According to their website:
We celebrate the seasonal and authentic foods, beverages and culinary traditions that make our foodshed both more diverse and more sustainable. Our mission is to help transform how our community shops for, cooks, and thinks of the foods we eat.
The magazine is available by subscription and free of charge at various site throughout the region.
