Cherry Vodka
Grand Traverse Distillery recently released its cherry vodka, and man is it good! While walking around the tasting pavilion at last month's Epicurean Classic, I kept overhearing people talking about it and how good it was. So naturally, I had to try it. YUM! And with an infusion of chocolate, how could it be anything but good? It's available locally at many stores, so make sure to look for the distillery's True North Vodka with the red stripe.
The distillery uses rye grown in the Grand Traverse region to produce its vodka. "The quality of the rye is excellent and as of now, we have bought most all of the available rye grown in Northern Michigan," says Kent Rabish, president of the distillery. "Just over 90,000 pounds in the past two weeks."
Next year they have a local farmer who has planted 70 to 100 acres just for the distillery. "Creating jobs and keeping Northern Michigan agriculture growing a profitable crop is what we like to see," Kent adds. And we're glad to see this product hit the shelves!
You can also find several recipes and instructions on their website for infusing vodka with your own flavors.
