Unwanted food put to good use

Marta Hepler Drahos writes about the Food Rescue of Northwest Michigan in Monday's Traverse City Record-Eagle. "Bob Cullen emerges from Goodwill Industries and fires up his refrigerated truck emblazoned with the Food Rescue of Northwest Michigan logo and the slogan, 'Putting good food to good use.' He was up before the birds in order to start his route at 8 a.m.," she writes. "Before the day is over, he'll have rescued about 500 pounds of food from area stores -- food close to the sell-by date and therefore destined for the garbage dump -- and delivered it to people in need through area food pantries, shelters and community meals programs."
