More on Michigan wine competition

Results from last week's Michigan Wine and Spirits Competition were a bit of a surprise, according to judge and Detroit News wine columnist Sandra Silfven. Read her coverage of the event, where the usual Rieslings, Gewurztraminers and Pinot Blancs were overshadowed by Frontenacs and Traminettes.

A Wok in the Park

Diane Conners writes about Munson dietician Laura McCain, who offers monthly cooking classes at the Farmers market at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons in Traverse City. She invites her fellow employees from the hospital to come with her to the market, where she lugs her wok and portable burner to demonstrate simple dishes from whatever is available at the market that day.

Local Food Distributor Filling the Niche…and then some!

Great article in the Traverse City Business News about Cherry Capital Foods. Since Eric Hahn started the business 15 months ago, sales have gone up 800 percent. And what's good for his business is good for the farmers participating. Since working with Cherry Capital Foods, five farmers have had to expand their growing operations. Currently, more than 150 area farmers sell their produce directly to Cherry Capital Foods, which then delivers the goods to businesses throughout Northern Michigan, as well as Detroit, Chicago and Grand Rapids. Nice to know more businesses are serving fresh local foods to their customers. It's a win-win for all concerned.

Michigan Wine Competition Winners

Check out his roundup of the annual competition held this week in East Lansing. And congrats to all the Northern Michigan winners!
